I have been trying to appreciate my body for all it is not just what it could be. I think when we decide to change our bodies, eat healthier, and exercise; often it comes from a place of self loathing instead of appreciation. I have in the past felt guilty for extra pounds and embarked on change not because I feel good but because I feel bad about where I am. I can’t help but wonder if that sets me up for failure. Instead of tearing myself down and getting wrapped up in the guilt of years of French Fries and Frothy Lattes, I am choosing to celebrate the life I have. I can celebrate the beautiful complexity of flavors from mixed veggies while appreciating the simple joy of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The same is true of my body. It isn’t perfect I could let myself get wrapped up in the imperfections in my body or I can celebrate the way it feels when I dance fast. I could enjoy the endorphins washing over my body in a healthy glow. I am choosing to accentuate the things about my body I love. When I am dancing I am getting my whole body into the music and owning the body I am in. I put together a list of songs that might help you own your body for all of its beauty and flaws.
I have started with the bottom because I think it is probably the most musically celebrated body part! In the next few days I will be adding other body parts, and some songs that are just musically motivating. Stay tuned!
